It is often possible to refurbish your existing chairs to a new, comfortable and hard wearing standard, which, will comply with the required fire legislation and will be at a most economical cost.

If required, the back and seat shapes could be re-designed to produce a more contemporary feel.

The specification will also include completely new seat and arm and all new foams to British fire certification standards.

All styles of chairs can be refurbished, from original cast iron theatre chairs to retractable and current multiplex innovations.

Case Study

Jill Craigie Cinema

University of Plymouth

The seating in the Jill Craigie Cinema is multi-functional.  It needs to provide comfort for a cinema audience drawn from the local community as well as university students and the space is also used for lectures, so a writing tablet needs to be encased in the arm which is easy to release for note taking.

We surveyed the cinema and the seating in Jill Craigie was found to be very tired with collapsed interior foams and threadbare fabric particularly on the arms and aisles where there was most passing traffic.

The University wanted an economic as well as a quality option and as the metal standards were functional and did not require replacement, we proposed a refurbishment scheme.  Any broken tablets or fixings were replaced and the chairs were upholstered with all new foams and covered in a bright contemporary coloured fabric from Camira, which was chosen by the University and gave a fresh look to the auditorium.  To allow continued use of the space, we used an additional row of chairs from the University store which permitted us to keep Jill Craigie operating with full seating capacity whilst we undertook the refurbishment on a rolling programme.

Refurbishment is often a viable option for auditorium seating with the bonus that is much more sustainable, as the standards are not being wasted and it is often a more economical solution.  Sometimes, the style of the upholstery can be modified to bring a new look and/or the shape and size of the backs can be altered.

If the space needs to be in constant use and there are not enough spares, we can manufacture a row or a couple of rows of seating to permit us to work through without too much interruption to the client’s business.
